The philosophies of Belvoir Hill Riding Centre have their roots deeply embedded in preserving the time-tested and true values of the Classical Riding System.  The object of our training system is the harmonious development of the physique and ability of both the horse and rider.  The result is that the horse is not only loose, supple, and flexible, but also calm, confident, attentive, and keen.  Thus achieving perfect understanding and harmony with the rider.  The horse must give the impression that he is doing, as if by magic and of his own accord, that which is required of him.  A willing and confident partner submitting generously to the will and control of the rider.

The secret of what makes a great rider great, or a good rider good?  A lot of dedication and hard work!  Learning to ride well could never be considered easy.  Working with horses is the sort of work that is never finished, there is never an end to the learning process!

Whether the goal is to ride for pure pleasure, exercise, spiritual well-being, or the Olympic Games, the process of teaching all students is based on the same slow, steady, and systematic approach over many months and/or years.

At the advanced level and for those riders who wish to practice the advanced work of High School Dressage, the rider is taught to establish a mutual partnership with the horse and become a perfect combination.  The rider is encouraged to be committed to devoting time, effort, and attention to this partnership.  This unique "bond" will express itself as a certain radiance and will give the performance of horse and rider a special beauty and charm.  Something that goes beyond the mechanical performance of set exercises and becomes elegant, charismatic, and wonderful to experience!

Each student is an individual, as is each horse, and each horse and rider combination.  Our goal is to create confident and competent riders who respect and understand the horses and/or ponies that they ride.  This is done in a safe, enjoyable, and professional environment.
